2. What data we collect and why

3. Third-party services
PumpItDown uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy.
- postcodes.io — converts your postcode to a map coordinate. No account or API key required; your postcode is sent directly to their public API. postcodes.io
- UK Government Fuel Finder API (GOV.UK) — source of all live fuel price data. We pull retailer-submitted prices every 30 minutes. No user data is sent to this service.
- DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service (GOV.UK) — when you add a vehicle to My Garage, its registration number is forwarded to the DVLA's Vehicle Enquiry API to retrieve make, colour, fuel type and tax status. The registration is not stored by PumpItDown after the response is returned. DVLA Privacy Notice
- DVSA MOT History API (GOV.UK) — used to retrieve MOT test history for vehicles in your garage. The registration number is forwarded to DVSA's trade API and is not retained by PumpItDown. MOT history data is stored in your browser only. DVSA Privacy Notice
- Mapbox — used by the Route Fuel Planner to calculate driving routes between two UK postcodes. Your start and end coordinates are sent to Mapbox's servers. Mapbox Privacy Policy
- Google AdSense — displays advertisements on the site. Google may set its own cookies and collect data about your visit for ad personalisation. You can opt out via Google's Ads Settings. Google Privacy Policy
- Google Analytics — used to understand how the site is used in aggregate (page views, device types, traffic sources). IP anonymisation is enabled. Google Privacy Policy
- Microsoft Clarity — records anonymised session replays and heatmaps to help us improve the site's usability. No personally identifiable information is captured. Microsoft Privacy Statement
- Google Fonts — fonts are loaded directly from Google's servers, which may log your IP address. Google Privacy Policy
- Amazon Associates (affiliate links) — some station cards on our city pages contain links to relevant car products on Amazon.co.uk. These are clearly labelled as sponsored. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Amazon may set its own cookies when you visit their site. Amazon Privacy Notice
Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are disabled when you access the site from localhost during development.
A note on our Amazon affiliate links: PumpItDown is a free service. Clicking the Amazon product cards shown alongside fuel prices helps support the running costs of the site — at no cost to you. We only feature products we think are genuinely useful to drivers. Thank you for your support!

5. Your rights under UK GDPR
As a UK resident you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — you can ask what data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data.
- Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (e.g. preference cookies), you can withdraw it at any time by unticking "Remember my choice".
Because we store almost nothing on our servers, most requests can be resolved simply by clearing your browser cookies. For anything else, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

6. Data security
PumpItDown is served entirely over HTTPS. We do not store payment information — the site has no checkout or subscription features. Form submissions are transmitted over encrypted connections and delivered to a private email inbox. Our hosting provider (Plesk/IIS on Windows Server) maintains physical and network security for the server infrastructure.
7. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the site's features or applicable law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
